Submissions for Canada West Crime Wave are now closed.
Thanks to everyone who submitted – you’ll be hearing from the Anthology Committee.
Canada West Crime Wave Anthology Submission Guidelines
To submit to the anthology, you must be a current member in good standing of Sisters in Crime (national) and of Sisters in Crime – Canada West, both at the time you submit and when the anthology is published (currently scheduled for the fall of 2020).
You may submit as many entries as you wish. The anthology editors will select the best stories from all entries to be included in the anthology.
The theme for the anthology is the title. Stories should at least touch on Canada West jurisdictions and should involve a crime wave (depending on how you interpret it.) Is it an escalating number of crimes? Is it crime that somehow involves the water? We leave that open to your interpretation, but the story must involve a crime of some sort, even if the ‘crime’ is no longer a crime in the modern age.
Do not submit reprints or previously published work (whether in print or electronically). For our purposes, previously published includes self-published stories and those published on a blog or public forum.
No Simultaneous Submissions:
Please do not submit the story to any other publication (such as anthologies, journals, magazines) while it is being considered for publication in Canada West Crime Wave. We will respond to all submissions – if your story is not selected, you will be free to submit it elsewhere.
Submissions are blind. Do not put your name or contact information anywhere on your manuscript.
Maximum length is 10,000 words. There is no minimum length required. Please double space your entries and use a standard font such as Times New Roman 12 (larger font is always welcome!), both for our ease of reading and to make the editorial/publication process smoother. Submit your document in Word (.doc or .docx).
Include a cover page that sets out the title of your story, your name and your contact information (at least an email address and a telephone number). Please also include the following confirmation in the body of your email:
“I confirm this story has not previously been published, electronically or in print.”
Submissions must be received by us no later than midnight, Pacific Time, November 21, 2019.
Contract and Compensation:
If your entry is selected for inclusion in the anthology, we will send you a contract. For each selected story, we ask for exclusive first world English anthology rights for three months after publication and for non-exclusive world English anthology rights in print and electronic formats. This permits us to publish your story first (and in subsequent versions of the anthology). You will retain all other rights to your stories and will be free to submit them for reprint three months after the publication date.
Author compensation per story included in the anthology is $25 Canadian. Authors will also receive a complimentary copy of the anthology.
How to Submit:
Submit your entry by emailing it (as a .doc or .docx attachment) to firstname.lastname@example.org. Please make every effort to ensure there are no viruses in your attachment.
We will acknowledge receipt of your submission by email.
