Conference

The next Sisters in Crime – Canada West conference is scheduled for November 14 and 15, 2020 at the Granville Island Hotel in Vancouver! This boutique hotel is surrounded by the great vibes of Granville Island and views of False Creek.

We are in the early stages of planning, so details are few. But we can tell you this:

Friday Evening Meet-up

As we did at our August, 2018 conference, we will kick off the 2020 event with an informal (no host) gathering at a venue on Granville Island or nearby.

Programming

Currently we anticipate offering one and one-half days (Saturday, November 14 and Sunday, November 15) of presentations. Programming is in the “what would we do if cost were not an issue” stage. Presentations will focus on topics that a writer of crime fiction needs/wants to learn about.

Our guest speaker is Jan Burke, a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author. She has won the Edgar for Best Novel, and the Agatha, the Macavity, and the Ellery Queen Mystery Magazine Readers Award for Best Short Story, among other honours. Her books have been published internationally and have been optioned for film and television. She is the author of over thirty short stories. Jan’s work in nonfiction includes serving as the associate editor (with Sue Grafton) for MWA’s Handbook, Writing Mysteries. Her forensic science and criminal justice columns appear in Sisters in Crime’s InSinC Quarterly. For more about Jan Burke and her books, click here.

Saturday Evening Event

Saturday evening’s event is designed to showcase Sisters in Crime authors and their novels and will be open to the public. It may involve a panel of authors or a series of short readings by members, but whatever form it takes it will be entertaining!

Bookseller

Yes, there will be a bookseller at the conference (Saturday only).

Registration and costs

The conference is open to the public, however members in good standing of Sisters in Crime will receive a reduction in the registration fee for the conference. Stay tuned for an announcement when registration opens.

The Granville Island Hotel will offer a special conference rate for attendees who wish to stay at the site.
